The Donica Road Sewer Extension Project is nearing completion, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we work through the final steps of the project.
Unfortunately, an outstanding contractual matter related to the electrical work has delayed the electrical inspection needed to establish permanent power and move forward with the pump station startup. The District is actively working with the project team and contractor to resolve this matter and keep the project moving forward.
While this is being addressed, we are continuing with other important closeout activities. Next Tuesday, representatives of the District and project team will be walking the construction area to identify any remaining items that need to be completed or corrected before final acceptance. Residents may see us inspecting paved areas, restored properties, and other portions of the project. This is a normal part of the construction closeout process and helps ensure the completed work meets the District’s expectations.
We understand that residents are eager to see this project completed, and we share that goal. We are working diligently to complete the remaining requirements, establish permanent power, and bring the pump station into service as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding throughout this project. We will provide another update when we have meaningful progress to report.
York Sewer District is committed to clear communications and project transparency. For questions about the Donica Road project, process, construction phases or to learn more about how to connect your property to the new sewer extension, visit us online at yorksewerdistrict.org or email our team today. As always, we appreciate your patience and cooperation as this work nears completion. Thank you.
DONICA ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE The Donica Road project continues to move closer to completion, with much of the recent activity focused on cleanup, paving, electrical work, and restoration. Richardson electric was onsite continuing work on the pump station electrical system, including pulling wire and working on the automatic transfer switch, which brings us closer to being ready for permanent power and pump station startup.
KEY MILESTONE Albanese’s paving and cleanup crew returned last Friday and completed additional restoration behind Camden Bank and in the Meadowbrook area. Approximately 122 square yards of pavement was placed.
WHERE WE ARE NOW Most of the physical construction is complete, and the project is largely down to electrical completion, permanent power, startup and testing; as well as final cleanup and grading at the pump station site, and punch-list items. We currently have a tentative pump station startup date of October 13th, but that date depends on CMP completing the permanent electrical service.
Residents may still see crews at the pump station completing final grading, cleanup, and site restoration while the electrical work moves forward. The good news is that the heavy construction that affected Donica Road for much of the project is essentially behind us, and the remaining work should generally be much less disruptive.

DONICA ROAD WEEKLY UPDATE
Here’s a summary of the work completed August 31- September 4 on the Donica Road sewer project:
INSTALLATION This past week was relatively quiet from a construction standpoint. Albanese completed several remaining mechanical items, including installation of the air release valve near the Eldredge Drive area and additional valve and connection work at the Meadowbrook North vault.
PUMP STATION The biggest issue right now is getting permanent power to the pump station. Richardson Electric is awaiting final electrical components needed to finish its work. Once those components arrive, they can complete the wiring and have the installation inspected. Once inspection is complete, CMP must make the final connection and energize the new electrical service, then we can power up the pumps and controls and begin startup and operational testing.
KEY MILESTONE:
The gravity sewer, force main, pump station wet well, pumps, valve vaults and the majority of the underground piping are installed. The new force main has successfully passed pressure testing, and much of Donica Rd has been restored and paved.
FIELD ISSUES
CMP continues to be a challenge with getting a firm schedule. The District and our contractors will continue pushing for a firm commitment, but once our electrical work is complete and inspected, the timing of CMP’s final connection is largely outside of our control
TRAFFIC AND SAFETY
As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR SEPTEMBER 8-11
Electrical work will continue. If the site appears quiet, it does not mean the project has stalled- we are simply waiting on steps that must occur in sequence before the pump station can be placed into operation
SCHEDULE
We will continue to keep everyone updated as we get firmer dates, particularly for permanent power and the remaining paving.
Here’s a summary of the work completed August 24–28 on the Donica Road sewer project:
INSTALLATION This past week, the project continued moving through the final stages of major construction, with significant progress on the pump station and manhole/sewer main testing. Crews also began construction of a new 6-inch gravity sewer main behind Camden National Bank and finished by the end of the week.
PUMP STATION Albanese continued grading and installation of the gravel base and constructed the concrete pad for the new standby generator. Richardson Electric also continued electrical work associated with the pump station, including installation of the grounding system and final underground conduits.
KEY MILESTONE: Successful pressure testing of the new 4-inch force main.
FIELD ISSUES Crews encountered several existing utilities that were either inaccurately marked or not previously documented, including water, propane, electrical, drainage, and other utility lines. One water service was damaged during excavation but was immediately repaired, and the affected facilities were flushed and returned to normal operation the same day.
TRAFFIC AND SAFETY As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR AUGUST 31–SEPTEMBER 4 The remaining work will increasingly focus on completion and startup of the new pump station, final electrical work, site grading and restoration, roadway work, and development of the final project punch list. We will also be coordinating with the Town regarding the remaining reclaiming and paving work on Donica Rd.
SCHEDULE The project has come a long way since construction began, and we are now approaching the point where the focus shifts from installing major infrastructure to completing, testing, restoring, and preparing the new system for operation.
Here’s a summary of the work completed August 17–21 on the Donica Road sewer project:
INSTALLATION This past week significant progress was made of the Donica Road Pump Station, as the project moves further into electrical, testing, and site restoration phases.
- Both new pumps have now bee nisntalled in the wet well.
- Richardson Electric working throughout the week installing electrical conduit between the new utility service, generator and automatic transfer switch location, pump station, valve vault, and other associated equipoment.
- Much of this work is now underground and has been inspected as required. Crews also completed the mechanical piping within the new valve vault and coordinated with YSD and the property owners as connections were made to the existing system.

FORCE MAIN Crews completed the remaining 4-inch force main installation and conenction to the new valuve vault at the existing meadowbrook south pump station. The new force main has been filled and brought up to pressure in preparation for pressure testing.

LOAMING AND SEEDING Albanese loamed and seeded the areas disturbed by the individual sewer service installations this pst week.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR AUGUST 24–28 Testing of the new force main will continue this week along with additional electrical and pump station work. Crews will also continue working toward completion of the remaining site improvements necessary before the new pump station can be tested and placed into operation.
SCHEDULE The project has reached the point where much of the major underground construction is behind us, the focus will shift toward:
- Electrical work
- Testing
- Final connections
- Restoration
We continue to make steady progress to get the new system placed into service.
Here’s a summary of the work completed August 10–14 on the Donica Road sewer project:
INSTALLATION This past week significant progress was made of the Donica Road Pump Station, with much of the major underground mechanical work now coming together:
- The new pump station valve vault was installed and outfitted with the piping, isolation valves, and flow meter that will ultimately control and monitor flow from the new station.
- Manhole 1405 was reinstalled and connected to the new gravity sewer system, followed by installation of the final gravity sewer connection between manhole 1405 and the pump station wet well. With this work complete, the gravity sewer is now physically connected to the new pump station.
- Assembly of the permanent pump station equipment, including the pump base elbows, discharge piping, force main piping and guide rails were done. New pumps and other major pump station components have also been delivered to the site.

FORCE MAIN Crews completed the connections for both the new 4-inch force main and the future 6-inch force main at the valve vault inside the wet well.

KEY MILESTONE: Site restoration continued as deep excavations around pump station were backfilled and compacted. Crews also began bringing the site up to its proposed final grade and installing gravel for the pump station driveway.
LOAMING AND SEEDING Final loaming and seeding of areas disturbed by the individual sewer service installations is planned for late August. Waiting until later in the summer should provide better growing conditions and improve the establishment of new grass.
TRAFFIC AND SAFETY As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR AUGUST 17–21 Work will continue on assembly of the pump station equipment, with electrical work scheduled to begin this week. Construction will also continue on the remaining force main connection behind Meadowbrook Plaza and other work necessary to prepare the new pump station for testing and eventual startup.
SCHEDULE There is still work to complete before the new sewer system can be placed into service, but the project continues to make substantial progress as the major components of the new pump station are installed and connected.
Here’s a summary of the work completed August 3–7 on the Donica Road sewer project:
INSTALLATION This past week crews reclaimed and paved the sewer trench from the upper end of Donica down toward the pump station area. For now, the roadway restoration consists primarily of paving the areas disturbed by construction rather than repaving the entire width of Donica. This is intentional. The Town would like the reconstructed trenches to go through at least one freeze-and-thaw cycle before determining whether full-width paving is appropriate. The 500 ft section at the lower end of Donica between Route 1 and Eldredge driveway still requires additional work and will be reclaimed and paved later in the project.

PUMP STATION WORK Construction continued at the new pump station. Helical piles were installed to provide additional foundation support for the new valve vault. Crews also constructed reinforced concrete foundations that will support these structures. This work is part of the additional measures being taken to provide a stable foundation in the soft clay conditions encountered in this area.

KEY MILESTONE Albanese began roadway restoration and paving along Donica Road.
FIELD ISSUES Residents may notice that some areas disturbed for individual sewer service connections have not yet received final loam and seed. This work is intentionally being scheduled for late August to provide better conditions for establishing new grass rather than attempting to seed during the hottest part of summer.
TRAFFIC AND SAFETY As construction continues, residents should continue to expect weekday construction activities, construction equipment, and occasional temporary traffic impacts within the work zone.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR AUGUST 10–14 Albanese plans to reinstall manhole 1405 and reconnect it to the new 8-inch gravity sewer, install the pump station valve vault, and remove the remaining temporary excavation support systems. Crews will then return to Meadowbrook Plaza to complete the remaining 4-inch force main and connection work.
SCHEDULE Construction continues to stay on schedule
Here's the summary of work completed July 27–31 on the Donica Road sewer project:
INSTALLATION This past week construction efforts continued behind Meadowbrook Plaza as crews advanced installation of the new 4-inch HDPE force main connecting the Donica Road pump station to the existing sewer system.

EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION 450 linear feet of force main was installed during the week, bringing this portion of the project significantly closer to completion.
KEY MILESTONE Temporary steel sheet piling surrounding the new pump station wet well was completely removed, marking the successful completion of another major construction milestone.
FIELD ISSUES As anticipated construction behind Meadowbrook Plaza encountered shallow ledge requiring several days of controlled blasting. During excavation crews also encountered an undocumented 2-inch low pressure sewer force main sewer force main serving Meadowbrook Plaza’s north pump station. - EXCAVATION AND PIPE INSTALLATION Crews began near the southern portion of the project and, as work progressed, they encountered challenging subsurface conditions, including areas of clay and groundwater. These conditions required additional support measures and careful installation techniques to ensure long-term stability of the system.
- DRILLING AND BLASTING PREPARATIONS Crews were onsite performing subsurface probing and beginning preparations for controlled blasting. This work helps identify ledge and allows the team to plan for safe and efficient trenching as the project advances.
